In 1998 the Fashion Design Council was set up to promote the fashion industry in India to face the upcoming market. The main aim of the council was to promote Pret –a-Porter and Diffusion wears in the market. So for the designer fraternity Lakme India fashion week was the National platform to showcase their talent. LIFW provides the designers with national and international level of business interaction.
The council does research on the latest market trends, sizes, and consumer buying cycle and what is mostly demanded by the consumers and then conducts workshops and seminars for the designers. So because of the effort of the council the designer wear is gaining popularity worldwide. LIFW provides a platform in the international market like Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong, U.S.A and many other places world wide.
With LIFW the designers are continuously in interaction with the national and international market. LIFW makes efforts to promote India as a country with the help of promoting the designers.
LIFW is held twice annually one show is the Spring Summer collection and the other is the Autumn Winter collection in which the designers participate to show off their collection.
In the Spring Summer 2009 collection will be held in Mumbai from 20th October – 24th October 2008 in which 75 designers will be participating and 13 sponsors.
In all the LIFW shows there is always a category for GenNext designers, this category is for upcoming designers or the designers who are participating for the first time. So this year in 2008 there are 10 upcoming designers.
To also promote men’s wear this time in LIFW there will be a exclusive men’s wear day which will show case 8 men’s wear designers.
For the first time in 2008 LIFW will showcase Accessory Designers in collaboration with “Jamaat” the art studio in Mumbai.
LIFW also invites international buyers from Saudia Arabia, Dubai, Kuwait, Oman, France, Italy and many other countries world wide.
