The entry of Manish Malhotra into Bollywood came with David Dhawan giving him a chance to design for the lead role that was Juhi Chawla in Swarg and at that time he was just 25 years. He actually started of by working in a Boutique by draping garments over the mannequin.
Today his name is synomonous in Bollywood, he changes the complete look of the actress like the hairstyle, jewellery, accessories etc along with the costume which he has designed. Like he gave a complete makeover to Karishma Kapoor in Raja Hindustani and he also won the Showtime Opinion award for it.
His creativity includes designing for Bollywood, diffusion, his prêt line, haute couture and Bridal wear. In the year 2004 he launched his label “Manish Malhotra” which was a huge success .This label of his is the first dedicated label in the country.
Manish Malhotra retails around India in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Banglore, and Hyderabad and around the globe in Dubai, Canada, London and Singapore.
Usually Manish Malhotra’s silhouettes are in rich colors with zari and resham work done on it and his silhouettes are mainly in chiffon, Georgettes, Satin, Crepes, Silks and they are mostly embellished with pearls or swarovski crystals.
He also designs wedding trousseau for high profile wedding like that of Kajol, Karishma kapoor and for weddings globally in London, Singapore and Antwerp.
For his work he has also been felicitated with a huge number of awards he was the first one to get the Filmfare award for his costume design which he had done to Urmila Matondkar in Rangeela.
Manish Malhotra has designed for many blockbusters of Hindi cinema like Dil to Pagal hai, Mohabbatein, Kabhi khushi kabhi gham, Kuch kuch hota hai, Kal ho na ho, Veer zaara and for all these movies he was also felicitated with Awards also.
Apart from the Indian celebrities he has also dressed Michael Jackson and Lady Weber.
He has also designed footwear for Metro Shoes.
With his huge success Manish Malhotra decided to open another branch for his store and he named it as “Reverie” this store of his was well received by socialites like Tina ambani , Tanya Godrej, Haseena jethmalani and many more.
Manish Malhotra first fashion show was in 1999 and it got a very good response by 70% of his clothes selling of in the first 3 weeks, his clothes were upto the mark for the people as they expected out of him. And since then he has been participating in all the fashion shows across.
