Rohit Bal
Rohit Bal is known as the “Master of fabric and fantasy” by Times magzine. He was born in Kashmir and he moved to the capital to pursue his education. He graduated from St. Stephens college Delhi in history Hons. And he also did a course at NIFT where he learnt the art of designing from cutting to stitching the garment. And then after that in 1986 he joined his brothers business of exports to gain experience.
Then in 1990 he launched his first collection of traditional Men’s wear. This was a huge success for him. He was set apart from the other designers because his fabrics, textiles were very unique as he had his own manufacturing factory. Because of the finishing in the work he was known globally. Never was it seen that one man was the centre of attention with so many people.
Rohit Bal apart from designing clothes has entered the field of jewellery designing and Branding for Kirtilal das which has its stores across India and abroad. Before Rohit Bal used to design Bridal wear for Kirtilal’s family. He says that the intricate embroidery that’s been done on clothes; those designs can be used on jewellery. Rohit Bals two design series will be launched in a year and he also designs men’s accessories like cuff links.
He’s also an Ambassador for Omega Watch Company and it has sponsored all the shows that were held in India and Paris. And has personal relationship with Swatch Co. His collections are inspired mainly by Fantasy, history and folklore and are retailed for upto 10,000 USD. He has dressed up some of the well known celebrities like Noami Campbell, Uma Thurman, Cindy Crawford and Pamela Andreson to name a few.
Rohit Bal has also worked with Khadi fabric in his collection in collaboration with Khadi Gram Udyog which is the largest handloom textile manufacture in India and its collaboration with it is a great pride for him.
Rohit Bals collection is usually dominated by the color Black as you will notice and on it some metallic embellishments would be done to make it an attractive masterpiece.
He also designed uniforms for British Airways in Indian, by replacing the sarees with kurtas. Sarees will be designed by him to be worn at promotional events. His Label is known as “Balance”. His designs are fabulous and he’s a trend setter in the Indian fashion house. He has also created a history in being successful in his own shows across the globe like in New York, Singapore, London, Mumbai, Delhi and many to list here.
There are many awards also which he has won as the best designer awards Bt I.F.A fashion awards and by the Kingfisher group.
