Tarun Tahiliani

Tarun Tahiliani started his career with a Management Degree from the University of Wharton , when he came back to India he followed his family business of machine tools but later on he felt a huge inclination towards the fashion industry and the huge market for it.

So to start with he opened his first store “Ensemble” in Mumbai it was the first multi brand store to retail according to international standards. He and his wife sailaja undiscovered few upcoming young talented designers and made them design apparels according to their standards. So with the opening of this store his designer skill was discovered as he acquired his fashion degree from Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T) New York.

So with the success in Mumbai he opened up another “Tarun Tahiliani” studio in New Delhi as it’s considered to be a fashion hub and his label is known as “Ahilian”. And now he has two branches.

Tarun Tahiliani is very fascinated by the Chikankari work of Luckhnow and he uses this work in many of his Silhouettes. He also uses Bead work Swarovski crystals as embellishments on his outfits. The other highlights that he does to outfits are Block printing, Bandhini and his silhouettes are usually rich and color combinations are beautiful. If you are making a wedding trousseau it might cost you around 3-5 lakhs but they are worth the money you pay for.

The first solo show which he did was in London known as “Rubaiyat”.

Tarun is considered to be the master of drapes and his clientele is both domestic and international. Recently he inaugurated another Ensemble boutique in Delhi. His clientele include Jemina Khan for her Wedding, Simi Garewal, Kabir Bedi, Amir Khan (For Oscars), Duchess of Kent and Aishwarya Rai these are a few to list.

He has also launched his own Jewellery Line. In the year 2005 he participated in the London and Milan fashion week and with this he made an entry in Europe and Middle East. And in the year 2006 he won an award “Order of the star of Italian solidarity”.

His house creates Diffusion wear, prêt –a-porter, Haute couture and accessories all of his ensembles have an Indian touch but yet they are international in appeal. His work has great craftsmanship and they are high fashion and they have an impeccable appeal added to it.

Tarun Tahiliani has also received a number of awards like the “Best designer award” (2002) and the “Best women’s wear designer” award.

His designing is not only restricted to only women’s wear but also men’s and house furnishings.

His stores are spread across the globe in U.S.A, London, Middle East, Europe, Australia and India.
