Zardosi work

The word “zardosi” is a persian word which means “zar” means gold and “dosi” means embroidery. Ari work or zardosi work is a persian art which was introduced during the medieval times before the mughal reignit reached its zeinth durin the reign of emperor Akbar in the 17 th century .During the reign of Aurangazeb this work was stopped it revived again after our independence in the year 1947. Zari work was mainly done in madrs, Zardosi work was done in hyderabad and today luckhnow is the home for gold and silver embroidery.

Zardosi work reflects royalty,it was done on the attire of various gods and the mango motif in zardosi was very famous it adorned the wardobe of the kings and queens in that era.
 

Zardosi work is very heavy it consists of metal wires, gold and silver threads, beads, stones which are embroidered on the required fabric in different designs, earlier gold wires were used but now a days metal wires are used.With one hand the craftsman holds the retaining thread below the fabric and in the other hand he keeps the hook or the needle to pick up the material and then he passes the needle or hook through the fabric and after many days of this work the result is achieved.

The materials that are used in this work have been commercialised to meet the requirements of everybody and to reduce the cost.To add glitz and glamour to the work salma, badla, sequins,kinari, metallic wires and stones are used.
